Electrolysis

The Challenge: Increase Proton Conductivity and Mechanical Stability of the Separator and Reduce Cross-Reactions

Hydrogen is a key energy carrier of the future. To help electrolysis achieve a breakthrough, an environmentally friendly, efficient and safe hydrogen production process is needed. Both PEM electrolysis and alkaline electrolysis enable the use of regenerative energies for water splitting. In both cases, the critical component is the separator.

In material development, the main challenges at present are to reduce material costs and increase the lifetime of the cell, and to increase the proton conductivity and mechanical stability of the PEM to reduce cross-reactions.

Digital Development of Electrolysis Materials with GeoDict

Analyze, understand, create and optimize your separator at the microscale. Math2Market enables you to digitize your materials research and development with GeoDict.

Image Processing & Image Analysis

3D image data can be imported and processed with GeoDict. Latest AI technology based on artificial neural networks (KNN) enables identification of all material constituents analysis and all objects. Single fiber microstructure characterization. Individual fibers and other objects can thus also be detected and characterized.

Characterization & Analysis

Through in-depth analysis of constituents and objects, GeoDict's structure generators can create realistic Digital Twins of the materials. Random generators are used to create statistical variance to minimize statistical errors in the simulations. Together with a database that assigns the respective material properties to all constituents, the Statistical Digital Twin is created.

Modeling & Design

GeoDict determines the important geometric and physical parameters of real or artificially created microstructures: porosity, grain and pore size distribution, active surface area, tortuosity, Gurley value, etc.

Integration & Automation

The Python-based automation enables the coupling of simulations and work steps to extensive parameter studies. Even complex problems such as the optimization of transport properties under mechanical compression can thus be digitally processed.
